Sketched in Seconds.

November Theme: Energy

I wanted to do some sketches this month of "Dancing with Energy" this was originally a series of paintings I wanted to do that utilized the elements. So I figured what better way to decide on the paintings than to upload all of my sketches of the different poses and choose from there?

The elements I had in mind when I drew these, in order: Wind, Water, Earth, Fire, if you can kind of tell where my sketching was going, lol.

Hope you enjoy, I uploaded four this time to catch up from the first few days of November that I missed. :)

NeoComic-Progress

Color-progress for NeoComic.

This is just to show I'm actually working on it, lol. These stairs were such a bitch to free-hand, next time I'm totally cheating and modeling them in Maya first. =_=; So if the perspective is off, I apologize, as of right now I have no plans to fix it further. The stairs will actually be colored, this is just a tone-blocking of them.

I feel like the kougra is as detailed as she's currently going to get since she has so many details anyway, I don't want to further complex her with a lot of shading (especially since I plan to submit this to be shown in the Neopet's newsletter, henceforth referred to as NT for Neopian Times; the limit only allows for 200kb so this is going to get seriously shrunk as is.)

And sadly you won't actually see the majority of the stairs in the comic but since I really do want to get better at drawing architectural structures, I decided to draw more of them initially for practice.

Hope you enjoy, look forward to the rest of the first issue colored!

Sketched in Seconds

These sketches for Sketched in Seconds were actually done on different days and the girl was part of the original set, however I lost the paper of her in one of my work notebooks and she just turned up this morning whilst I was doing some cleaning. So here she is! Sorry for her delay!

The drawing of the clown, Joko, is probably the last one I'll be doing at my current job. Starting November I'll have a new position aboard the high-seas, or rather, intracoastal waterway as a pirate. Yes, you read that correctly, I've been offered a position as part of the marketing team for a new event yacht with a pirate theme, so of course, I'll be taking part in the pirate theatrics too and doing face-painting for the kiddies. Ah, my jobs are awesome.

Anyway enjoy these sketches, the next update will have the fully colored comic from the previous entry! :)

Sillies

So for those who have ever played Neopets.com I'm a phantom user on there. That is, I forget I have an account for months at a time and then suddenly decide to lurk back on there for whatever reason.

I use to be highly in love with the site back when Adam/Donna/Poptart/Snowflake and all the other old TNT administrators where not only part of theneopetsteam but active on the boards. So my account is about nine and a half years old right now, hahaha.

Unfortunately I only have access to one of my accounts as the other two have incorrect birthdays entered ages ago and even after contacting administration with the correct email address and password, they still refused to unlock my account and allow me to reset my birthday.

And of course one of those accounts was my neopoints bank. =_=;; After nine and a half years, my main account is now incredibly poor since my millions of neopoints and extremely rare items are all locked away on an account I'll never be able to unlock again... ah, whoa is me.

Besides that, due to following one of my favorite DA artists who is just insanely good in all things comical, 2D animated and just a fantastic all-around gal, (check out her ridiculously fabulous artwork on DA here: http://canadian-rainwater.deviantart.com/), she also has a Neopets' comic that she's working on and it tickles my fancy.

That said, after being thoroughly engrossed in her comical works and realizing how incredibly lacking my own comic drawing skills are, I've decided to embark on my own Neopet-related comic series. I hope it will help me get use to drawing the same character over and over again in different poses and to help familarize me with drawing animals and architecture.

So view my first released-in progress work of my comic! :)

As simplistic as this comic is, the architectural challenges of the stair cases (and on page 2 there's actually a lot more to the staircases that I drew, it just ended up not fitting into the panels) coupled with drawing the kougra walking down the staircases, gave me a rather large headache. My kougra also has wings so that was another structural issue of figuring out how to fit them in without them taking up the entire panel; I attempted to fold them in such a manner that it hopefully makes some kind of anatomical sense, though I'm still in doubt if anyone will actually realize they are wings. =_=;;

Anyway, I'm rather happy with how this is coming along, I'm undecided if I'll actually attempt to color them or if I'm just going to enhance the lines and leave them in shades of gray tones... I'm pretty lazy, so the entire comic might end up in shades of gray. ^^;; we'll see. I want to gray out this panel and then move on to sketching out the rest of the comics. I have a very rough idea in my head of where this story is even going and how many comics it'll be, my sketches will decide!

Lmao, well, hope you enjoy and hope it brings back a little Neopets nostalgia for you! :)

* Edit: Also I should note that the text on page 2 isn't going to be kept in that format, because it looks stupid, it's simply so I can know how much room the text will take up on those panels. ~ That is all.

Grapes.

I think everyone has a food that comforts them when they eat it, i.e., comfort food.

However I'm not sure many people have a food that makes them feel royal, as though you are somehow part of the elite by eating it; that your status is more socially recognized and you're financially better off than you actually are.

This strange sensation of increased importance/wealth completely fills me up when I eat grapes. I'm not sure if it's because I grew up reading Greek mythology and all the gods and goddess ate grapes or drank wine and I'm making a connection with that, or whatever, grapes make me feel important.

Hell, if you give me some slices of pepper jack cheese with it, I'd believe I'm Aphrodite.

Because I always have this notion when I eat grapes, and indeed, right now I'm eating grapes, I did this quick sketch.

If I get time I'll complete it into a full digital painting. (Don't I always say that? lol)

The idea here is that a girl is sitting on some trashcans in an alleyway, munching on grapes and lounging about amongst the garbage. Even though she's surrounded by waste, it doesn't matter, because she's eating grapes and it just makes her feel awesome and takes her away to an imaginary world where she is a queen.

I think it's a cute idea. XD

Sketched in Seconds

Some sketches done in this morning's meeting. :) Hope you enjoy!

The first image is just a bunch of animals: rabbit, ferret, dog, cat.

The second image kind of reminded me of Wilma Flinstone, if she were more modern, lmao; it was inspired by a similar magazine cover that was floating on the table near me.

Silhouettes pt. 2

Now introducing the third OC of the story, meet our young sorceress' silhouette. :)

Yes she has bubblegum pink hair and yes I unnecessarily made her hair pink in this image as well. ♥

The character to the left is her as well, due to the climates of some areas and because of her quite recognizable appearance, she often travels in that layered cloak.

Her staff design is not decided upon yet and will take several design tests for me to fully decide. :) I may post all the designs here as well.

Logo

Though technically not part of Sketched in Seconds, I wanted to post my logo for tauremi.com / tauremi.blogspot separately here too for independent critics/viewing.

If I thought I respected font-makers before, I now respect them ten times as much, that was the most tedious *insert plentiful amounts of cursing* thing that I've had to do in a while. I've redone this font so many times I've lost count and it still isn't exactly where I want it but, meh. =_=;

Silhouettes

After about 20 gesture stick figures each, I finally decided on these poses for my two original characters.

Plan on doing a full line-up of all the characters in the story, so hope for that! :)

It may not come across as such right now, but these characters are fraternal twins, a boy and a girl.

Thanks to them, I really have to work on my character consistency so they look similar.

Anyway here they are (and the new Tauremi logo is also portrayed! :) )

I hope to get very good at drawing them and all the OCs of this story. :)

Both of these twins are martial arts specialists; it maybe hard to see but around the girl's hands are five-pronged bagh nakh, her main weapon. The boy's swords are considered "reversed" blades, the outer curved side is actually a wide-flattened blade that is used for stunning, the inner curved side is actually the real blade used to slice; he flips the blades in combat to suit his needs. Both weapon sets are made of high-carbon steel and were created specifically for each twin.

Yay more sketches.

I really like how her legs came out. XD

No time to blog tonight, got to finish some commission work but I really wanted to try to keep updating this blog.

Two Consecutive Posts? Hold Your Breath Folks...

That's right, I'm actually posting consecutively, be amazed.

Anyway drew some more girlies at work today, these girlies occurred during a rather tedious meeting so there's actually notes all around them on the originals, only one here still has some remainder that I didn't remove fully since it would lose part of the sketch.

Again sorry for the blurring, this notepad is only 5.5"L x 4"W so there's not much room to work with and I normally draw very large so this seems exceptionally tiny to me, hahaha.

So without further ado:

Forgive My Absence....

Sooooo, it's been a while... nine months to be precise!

I have to say, I wasn't very good about continuing this project, I did it for a few days then I got too lazy to scan and then I was working on a lot of commissions, and then, yeah, yeah.... I completely forgot it existed.

But while I was at work today, I realized I forgot my lunch at home. I wept inside, because I love food. Yet, with a bag of potato chips in hand, I sat outside on the patio. Normally I eat lunch during the week with several women from the Education Department of the Museum I work for. I love listening to them talk about their days and their travels as they're all moms and grandmothers. On Sundays however, everyone in the offices is off during the weekend so it's just us store associates and county workers that work over the weekend. This means I generally always eat lunch by myself on Saturday and Sunday, which though always delicious, can get very boring very quickly. Normally my thirty minute lunch period is the fastest thirty minutes of the day but if I'm by myself, I devour my food in under five minutes and have 25 minutes of staring at the lunch room wall.

But not today! Because today I actually remembered to snag a pad of paper and a pen from my desk before going down to the lunch room. So while I ate my Mixed Roots potato chips, I sketched me some pin-up girls!

I've always admired vintage pin-up artists and the girls that poised for the artwork and it's a style I've always said I wanted to work to get better at. So after I sketched these, I realized I really ought to add them up here for this project, so here they are.

So here's my first contribution in a long time to my "Sketched in Seconds" project for the larger "While I Wait" collaboration my roommate started.

So hope you enjoy and forgive my absence! (o^-^)oo(^-^o)

Sorry for the blurring, but it's to cover up the company's logo.

Day 4/365

So, technically it's actually Day 6 ya?

"Well, see, what had happened was... "

I told you this "every day" posting thing was going to be difficult for me, but I really am trying to at least do a drawing every day while I'm waiting!

So I shall edit this post later and include three drawings to make up for my lack of posting the previous two days. It'll be much later tonight though as my roommate and I are planning an Ikea adventure now to look at their sales.

But yes, posts, they're coming!

Day 3/365

So I've been listening to Fireflies' Owl City (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psuRGfAaju4) for the last few hours (literally, it's been on repeat). I just love how upbeat and whimsical it is. I'd like to do a digital painting inspired by it and here's a quick sketch of one of the characters I'm thinking about using in it. I've wanted to do a steam punk world painting for a while now, I think this little guy is the beginning of it.

Did this in mechanical pencil while I was waiting for Aion to finish updating.

Day 2

Alright, 2/365 Days for Sketched in Seconds, the While I Wait Project.

This was done while I was waiting for my lunch to microwave at work in 2h graphite.

These two women I met right before I went on break made me think of an old style cartoon drama. The skinny lady had a deep "old fashion" voice while the shorter woman had a rather high pitched one and sounded kind of ditzy. I loved their gossiping back and forth and knew I had to draw them next chance I got.

An Introduction of Sorts

This blog was inspired originally by an idea my roommate had called "While I Wait". It's random moments captured in drawings while you're waiting for something else.

Instead of just spending your time waiting, you sketch in those valuable seconds. This idea is more than just about drawing, it's about realizing that every second of your life is important and should be spent doing what you love, not just constantly waiting for something else to happen.

I went out today and purchased three new moleskin sketchbooks (since they are sold in packs of three at Barnes and Nobles).

And here are two doodles I did in the first one while waiting for my coffee at the Starbucks.

I plan to do this project in all types of mediums, basically whatever is handy. These particular sketches were done with graphite sticks.

I'd love it if others participated in this project as well! :) It's not about drawing well or even about drawing at all! I'd love to see how you use your "while I wait" seconds.
